Garrett Slonicker

Garrett joined the San Jose Police department as a law enforcement officer in 2013. He has been assigned as an FTO officer since 2017. Prior to the FTO program, Garrett was in an Undercover Narcotics Enforcement Unit and participated in the San Jose Police Department Academy as an instructor. He played additional roles in providing training for other officers and recruits for tactical related subjects.

Recognizing the importance of effective training in law enforcement, Garrett transitioned to a Field Training Officer in 2017. During his time as a Field training officer, he had approximately 35 recruits that he trained personally. As a current Field Training Officer, he played a significant role in developing curriculum focused on aiding failing recruits, supporting FTO collaboration, and FTO to Supervisor relations. His innovative approach incorporates real-life scenarios and emphasizes the importance of ethical decision-making. Garrett has led workshops and training sessions within the San Jose Police department, sharing his expertise with other law enforcement officers. Garrett has also contributed to innovative teaching styles and techniques to aid in the development of recruits and Field Training Officers in the program. As an instructor, Garrett will be sharing his experience and knowledge on how to facilitate an effective Field Training Program and high achieving field training officers.
