Consider this your train-the-trainer course. You’ll leave this course with a solid plan on how to begin or overhaul your Field Training Program. You’ll learn the simple concepts that will make your program successful directly from our highly experienced FTO Instructors.

This course equips law enforcement supervisors and managers with everything they need to organize and manage a Field Training Program. You’ll learn not only strategies and policy considerations but also the practical take-a-ways and tools that you can begin using immediately. Whether you are looking for a way to overhaul your program and get all your FTOs on the same page or need to know the best practices for managing a Field Training Program, this is the course for you. Our instructors are highly experienced FTO Supervisors from the San Jose Police Department, the birthplace of the FTO concept.

This course includes:

  • A behind-the-scenes look at what makes FTO programs successful or not.
  • How to coordinate and manage a Field Training Program
  • Selection and supervision of FTOs
  • Training deficiencies and how to fix them
  • Templates of Daily Observation Reports and Remedial Training Reports

Please have each student bring a laptop computer and a portable USB drive.

This course satisfies the Field Training Supervisor/Administrator/Coordinator (SAC) Training Requirement as specified in the California Code of Regulation, Title 11, Section 1004.

Steve "Pappy" Papenfuhs and Eddie ChanSteve "Pappy" Papenfuhs and Eddie Chan are not only highly-experienced law enforcement professionals from Northern California but they are also expert instructors. Steve is a former FTO Sergeant, and Eddie Chan is a current FTO Sergeant with the San Jose Police Department. Each has decades of experience teaching law enforcement officers. They are obsessed with delivering highly engaging courses and they are the reason why our FTO training programs are so different than the typical "Death by Power Point" courses.
