Brandon has spent much of his career helping officers understand one of the most challenging aspects of modern policing: using force that is both tactically effective and legally defensible. He has testified as both a Gang Expert and a Use of Force Expert and served as the Santa Ana Police Department’s representative to the Police Oversight Commission. He was also a member of the department’s Critical Incident Community Briefing Committee, where he worked alongside police executives and legal advisors to explain officer involved shootings, in custody deaths, serious use of force incidents, and other high-profile events to the community. Those experiences have given him a unique perspective on how police actions are evaluated both in the field and after the fact.

As the founding board member of the California Force Instructors Association, Brandon works with law enforcement trainers throughout California to stay at the forefront of evolving case law, tactics, policy, and best practices surrounding police use of force. He also remains a use of force instructor at the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy, where he helps prepare the next generation of California peace officers for the realities of the profession.

Brandon’s passion is helping officers make sound decisions under pressure and giving them the knowledge and confidence to explain those decisions afterward. His instruction bridges the gap between legal principles, department policy, and the realities of the street, providing practical lessons officers can apply immediately on their next shift. Whether teaching recruits, veteran officers, supervisors, or force instructors, Brandon is committed to helping students improve their performance when the stakes are at their highest.
