Learn practical techniques for effective investigative interviews

This practical interviewing course is designed for busy patrol officers and detectives. Students learn a structured, flexible approach to gathering reliable information and conducting interviews with suspects, victims, witnesses and informants. They leave with practical tools and greater confidence for interviews in both patrol and investigative settings.

Why You Should Attend This Course

  • Learn practical ways to encourage suspects to provide information
  • Learn structured, research informed interviewing concepts
  • Become more confident when interviewing suspects, victims, witnesses and informants
  • Participate in an active and engaging course with no "Death by PowerPoint"

Whether you are a patrol officer from a small agency or a seasoned detective from a large agency, this course will help you approach interviews with greater confidence. Students learn through instruction, case examples, interview videos and practical exercises. Rather than requiring officers to memorize a rigid script, the course provides flexible concepts that can be adapted to the person, facts, law and needs of the investigation. Our instructors guide students through the process and provide practical feedback throughout the course.

This course was developed specifically around the practical needs of patrol officers and detectives. It draws from current research, field experience and established interviewing practices to provide a useful framework for a wide range of interviews and investigative settings.

This course includes skill development in the following domains:
