A special 16-hour workshop for sworn law enforcement supervisors featuring expert instructors from the Savage Training Group as well as special guest presenters.

At Savage Training Group, we know that you want to be a supervisor others can count on. To do that, you need to lead effectively up and down the chain of command.

The problem is that most supervisor training is often antiquated and lacking any real substance. That leaves supervisors without clear ways to approach their duties, particularly those difficult situations that really matter. For years, we heard from sergeants who felt uncertain and unprepared and often wondered whether they were doing things right. We believe supervisors should have clear, practical ways to work through difficult situations and should be confident in their decision-making. That is why we created the Supervisor’s Seminar, a workshop for current and aspiring sergeants. We bring together our instructor cadre and guest presenters to teach simple, practical frameworks focused on the most important supervisory situations.

Join us and immerse yourself in:

  • The role of the sergeant in 2027 and beyond:
Clarify your responsibilities for setting expectations, supporting your officers, and providing direction when difficult personnel or field situations arise.
  • Crisis decision-making:
Use simple, practical frameworks to make sense of chaotic incidents, identify priorities, and give officers clear direction during hot calls and crimes in progress.
  • Managing an officer-involved shooting:
Build confidence in handling the first-arriving supervisor’s responsibilities after an OIS, including the public safety statement and questions to avoid asking involved officers.
  • Internal affairs investigations primer:
Distinguish routine supervision and counseling from administrative investigations and recognize how employee rights affect the way you question an officer.
  • Learning to lead yourself before you lead others:
Take an honest look in the mirror and learn simple routines for developing your skill set and setting an example for your team.
  • Training your team:
Learn practical ways to conduct briefing training that connects lessons to the decisions and situations your officers face on patrol.
  • Holding officers accountable & writing performance evaluations:
Set clear expectations, address performance problems dispassionately, and write evaluations that connect specific behavior to department standards and measurable improvement goals.
  • Leading up and down the chain of command:
Explore practical ways to give your officers clear direction while communicating concerns, needs, and recommendations effectively to command staff.

Speakers:

  • Scott Savage — Founder of Savage Training Group
  • Brian Bixler — Los Angeles PD (CA) Captain of the Metropolitan Division (ret.)
  • James Tacchini — San Francisco PD (CA) Lieutenant
  • Dan Flippo — Santa Cruz PD (CA) Deputy Chief (ret.)

… and more to be announced.
